Cross-Border Film Education, Intergenerational Workshops and Mobile Cinema Screening

Social Cinema is a cross-border film education project connecting the communities of Świdnica (Poland) and Broumov (Czechia) — two small towns on either side of the border, in the heart of the historic Sudetes. Its protagonists are youth and seniors from both countries, who come together to make films, write about cinema, and programme screenings.
Here, participants aren’t audiences — they’re authors. Through intergenerational workshops they shoot short documentaries, learn the craft of film criticism and curation, and by summer become the hosts of open-air screenings in small border communities themselves. One simple principle guides the programme: Polish cinema travels to Czech villages, Czech cinema to Polish ones — each screening introduced by participants from the country whose film is on screen.
The project culminates in a dedicated Social Cinema strand at the Spektrum Film Festival in Świdnica (2027), where participants present their own films, introduce screenings, and moderate discussions — this time within a professional festival setting.
Social Cinema is delivered by the Wrocław Film Foundation and Nadační fond Broumov – město kultury, with the support of the International Visegrad Fund.
